MORE THAN A RACE. A JOURNEY THROUGH FLANDERS FIELDS.

The Flanders Frontiers Ultra is a self-supported cycling challenge through a landscape where history, culture and endurance come together.

From the battlefields of the First World War around Ypres, across the hills of the Heuvelland and along the rugged beauty of the Opal Coast, the route takes you deep into the historic heart of French Flanders. Further south, we venture towards the Bay of the Somme, through the lands once known as Artois. A region that was historically part of the Flemish cultural sphere, where Flemish was spoken alongside French for centuries.

This is a landscape of quiet villages, rolling farmland, ancient towns, wind-swept coastlines and legendary climbs. From the cobbled and historic roads around Ypres to the steep hills of the Kemmelberg, the Catsberg and the Mont des Récollets, and onwards towards the cliffs and open horizons of the Opal Coast, every kilometre tells a story.

There is no support vehicle, no drafting and no peloton. You navigate by GPS, carry what you need and make your own way through the landscape. The challenge is physical, but the journey is just as much about discovering a part of Europe shaped by centuries of movement, conflict, culture and borders.

THE 2027 EDITION

For the next edition, we are taking the Flanders Frontiers Ultra further.

We will introduce a 500 km ultra, alongside the 360 km road route. The 180 km distance will evolve into a 200 km gravel challenge, opening up new roads and trails and bringing riders even closer to the landscape.

The routes and start times will also be redesigned so that the 360 km and gravel routes are ridden predominantly during daylight. This gives riders more time to experience the beauty, history and character of the region rather than simply passing through it in the dark.

Longer. Further. Deeper into the unknown parts of ancient Flanders.
